ST. JOHN'S, N.50. — Bob O'Neill and staff at the Play It Over again Sports used sporting goods store in St. John's have served a lot of customers over the last 28 years.
"Originally, they came in as small kids themselves years ago with their ain parents, and at present they're coming in with their own kids," reflected O'Neill, one of the store's owners. "We've reached unlike generations of customers."
Merely with O'Neill representing the youngest member of the buying team at the historic period of 64, there was a growing sense amidst them that a fourth dimension for modify was imminent. Thus, O'Neill and his colleagues are retiring from the business and looking for a new owner to take it over.
"I've got three partners, and we're all very strong advocates of the fact that we feel that the franchise, it would exist quite surprising if we didn't accomplish an agreement with somebody for the buy of it, because in that location'south so many people who count on it," he told The Telegram Midweek.
"For the trade-ins, for the skate sharpening, for everything else."
"I said to somebody recently, I'd love to know the dollar value of the product that we've recycled through the years."
Saving waste
In that location was no other business similar information technology when O'Neill and his partners opened Play It Again Sports in 1992. The business organisation is office of a franchise with locations throughout the U.s.a. and Canada, though the St. John's store is the only one in Atlantic Canada. In that location were no other stores in the metropolis specializing in used sports equipment, and that remains the case today. Play It Again Sports offers trade-in discounts to customers who have one-time equipment that someone else might observe useful.
"I said to somebody recently, I'd love to know the dollar value of the product that we've recycled through the years," said O'Neill, who reckons the business organisation keeps a lot of gear out of landfills.
A big part of what has helped the business organization get a success has been the expensive nature of sports equipment. Used gear at Play It Over again Sports is generally sold at one-half the cost of new equipment. The trade-in selection can come in handy for parents needing to get new skates or soccer cleats equally their children grow, according to O'Neill. He believes this has helped a lot of families afford to get their kids involved in sports when it otherwise would not accept been financially feasible to exercise so.

New, used gear
While information technology does have a unique position in the St. John's marketplace selling used sports equipment, O'Neill said 80 per cent of the business concern is defended to new gear. While hockey is a big part of what brings customers to Play It Again Sports, the growing popularity of golf has increased that sport's presence in the store. Soccer and figure skating are two other potent markets for the business organisation. For the latter sport, Play It Again Sports has consistently been the peak retailer in Eastern Canada, according to O'Neill.
The store moved into its current location at 390 Topsail Rd. nearly the Village Mall in 2016. The business concern and franchise are currently on the market place for $100,000 as a turnkey functioning, ready for use the moment a new purchaser buys it. The current inventory would require a dissever transaction, O'Neill said.
Knowing Play Information technology Again Sports has connected with multiple generations over the years makes moving on from the business difficult, O'Neill admitted.
"It's always ane of the hardest parts — yous take the relationships that are established with your customers, who supported us and then well over the years," he said.
